Hinton when she was just 16, The Outsiders is a powerful novel that speaks to teenagers as well as it did when it was published in 1967. To 14-year-old Ponyboy, being an outsider is better than being a social. He and his greaser gang find dealing with the socs difficult and eventually, things get out of hand. Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 53 1. WOW Reviewer: Kate from Canada Date: 2/23/2003 10:55:53 PM I think this book is suitable for all adolesents. Itz an amazing book that teenz in gang can relate to, like myself, it lets the world know that not all gangs are all that bad and some have feelingz! 2. The Outsiders: A Compelling Novel Reviewer: Pria from Toronto/Ontario Date: 2/22/2003 8:05:05 PM The Outsiders is a captivating novel told in the perspective of a lower class "greaser" named Ponyboy. It is a realistic representation of the lives of teenagers and their struggles against themselves and society. The novel gave me a new outlook on the hardships in the lives of the lower class society. I was completely immersed in the story and characters from the time I picked up the book, and I would recommend it to any teenager in search of a good read. 3. Inspiring Reviewer: Nicole from Toronto, Ontario Date: 1/27/2003 9:05:59 PM We read and studied this book in our English class. It was one of the most inspirational and meaningful books of my life. Growing up in a high class family made me apreciate all the things i had. You felt you could connect with the protagonist Ponyboy Curtis because of his troubled adolescent life. All adolescents have troubled lives no matter how big or small. After reading and studying the book in class we had a chance to watch the video.Unfortunatley the movie did not even compare to the book. Sadly the video reuined one of the most meaningful and unforgetable book for me. If you are thinking of reading this book i suggest you do not go anywhere near the movie. 4. The Outsiders... Reviewer: Amanda Lee from Vancouver Date: 12/21/2002 8:08:30 PM A really good book. I would recommend this for teenagers and young adults, and especially for people that like books that are in a different time period. I have read this book for school and I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 because of the action, and s.e. hinton puts quite a lot of detail in this book. Although The Outsiders has about only 12 chapters, each chapter includes vivid descriptions. I think that you would enjoy this book, I know I have. 5. Friendship and Belonging Reviewer: Norah&Marta from Calgary, Alberta Date: 12/13/2002 9:14:18 PM As students of grade nine we had to read this book for school. Last year we had to read Invitation To The Game and it wasn't very interesting, being all futuristic and impossible to happen. So we thought this would be a repeat. The main character, Ponyboy, made us think that the book was boring. But you really get sucked in. There are many resemblences to our lives and thats why we could really relate to Ponyboy. That is why we really enjoyed this book of Friendship of Belonging. Read all of the reviews...
