His musical gifts were quickly compared with the childhood genius of Mozart. Chopin quickly surpassed those that he studied with, and was to some extent left to develop on his own. His style of music is believed to be a direct result of this, that it was the absence of strict formal training that led to a distinct sense of freedom in his music.
