This was the start of the international phenomenon and when the band was no more all of the girls enjoyed varying degrees of solo success. Take That - Greatest Hits Preceeding the girl power of the Spice Girls were Take That - the most successful band since the Beatles. They ruled the UK charts for the first half of the 90's until their split in 1996, by which time Robbie Williams had already left and embarked on his solo career. Gary Barlow's songwriting talents were always at the centre of the band, but despite this he was unable to sustain a solo career. Blur - Best Of Counteracting the pure pop sound of Take That, the UK enjoyed a new musical style during the 90's - Brit Pop. Blur was one band at the forefront of the UK based guitar rock follwing in the footsteps of the Stone Roses. Oasis - Definately Maybe This, their debut album, was released in 1994 and is arguably still their best and an essential album for any Brit Pop fans. Oasis are still going strong and released a new album Heathen Chemistry in 2002. The antics of brothers Liam and Noel continue to hit the headlines. Back to the Old Skool A 2 CD compilation from Ministry of Sound including the best of the early 90's acid house/dance tunes - Set You Free, Theme from S Express, Goodlife, Move Any Mountain and lots more. Backstreet Boys - Greatest Hits - Chapter One This was the US's version of Take That - a boy band with lots of harmonies who could actually sing and chose a more R&B style follwing in the footsteps of Boyz II Men, rather than pure pop. Still going strong today, this collection of their chart topping hits to date was released in 2001. M People - Best Of Respected DJ and music industry man Mike Pickering formed M People in 1990 with Heather Small, the lady with big voice. The band were famous for that distinct voice and their upbeat, lighthearted radio friendly tunes. Eternal - Greatest Hits Best of from the 90's soul/R&B/pop group formed in London in 1992. The only white member, Louise left the group and enjoyed a successful solo career. The girls released 3 albums between 1994-1997. Lighthouse Family - Ocean Drive Lighthearted and easy listening pop tunes similar to those of M People, this their first album was released in 1995 and their success grew over the next two years with Postcards From Heaven being released in 1997 and Whatever Gets You Through in 2002. Fun Lovin' Criminals - Bag of Hits The New York trio hit the charts in latter half of the 90's with their alternative funky bluesy/hip-hop style.
