After Streatley there are several footpaths sections meaning that cyclists are not allowed on many eastern sections of The Ridgeway, where the Trail carries on through the Chilterns to Ivinghoe Beacon. The selected sections that are available for cyclists on this eastern section can often be much harder going than the western section outlined here. Route guide: 1) Avebury Stone Circle : Several thousand years old (thought to be one of the oldest in Europe ), a huge ring of megaliths (stone pillars) encircle 27 acres and enclose a village of thatched cottages, a Norman Church and an Elizabethan mansion.
