Easy traffic-free trail. An interesting section in Sunderland leads past the National Glass Centre, then through the Washington Wildfowl Centre. There's a handy pub at Cox Green and the Penshaw Monument is nearby. Newcastle to Tynemouth - 22 miles (35km) return journey. Well-surfaced path. Generally easy. Start by the suspension bridge and follow the spectacular riverside path all the way along the north bank of the Tyne to Tynemouth Priory. Enjoy the changing landscape from the new Millennium Bridge to Walker 's huge cranes, then on to the fishing docks of North Shields and Tynemouth . Follow the C2C signs. Food & Drink There are plenty of opportunities en route - especially at Keswick, Penrith, Alston, Newcastle and Sunderland - but several cafès on isolated sections are also very useful: Hartside Cafè: bang on one of the hardest and most spectacular sections of the whole route. Hemmel Coffee Shop, Allenheads: home-made lunches and snacks. Bike Stop Parkhead Station, nr. Rookhope: drinks, snacks, toilets, telephone, spares and repairs on a very isolated section of the route.
