Coverplan Service Agreement At Currys we want you to enjoy and make the most of your new product, so we have devised a service agreement to provide you with the best possible support and assistance now and in the future. We'll take responsibility for making sure your product works - that's the ressurance you get when you buy Coverplan at Currys. Our main aim with Coverplan is to keep your product working efficiently for you. We want to help you every step of the way, so your Coverplan service agreement offers a wide range of benefits to keep your product going. There are certain exceptions, so click on the questions below, and you will also find answers to some of the commonly asked questions about Coverplan. How to get your product repaired Step 1 Check the batteries, bulb or plug if applicable. Check the instruction booklet for advice on how to put the fault right. If appropriate, call the manufacturers helpline for advice. Step 2 Follow the procedures below and call the appropriate helpline. When you call, please make sure you have your Currys Coverplan reference number (printed opposite) available. For TVs 17 inches and over, hi-fis, desktop PCs, printers, some fax machines, word processors and microwaves (not including plasma TVs, portable audio, printers under £100 and Hewlett Packard printers). If we are unable to solve the problem over the phone, we will send an engineer out to you. This service is available Monday to Friday (not including bank holidays). We aim to repair your product during our first visit, but may need to order parts and return to finish the repair. If we need specialist equipment to repair your product, we may arrange to take your product to our technical centre. Loan TV set If we cant repair your TV on our first visit and it has a screen size over 17 inches , you may request a loan set from the engineer until the repair is completed. The loan set will be a 20 inch TV. This is subject to availability. For laptop PCs, business and front projectors, digital camcorders, cameras and some fax machines If we are unable to solve the problem over the phone, we offer a courier collection service. This service is available Monday to Friday (not including bank holidays). For all portable products over £100 and VCRs Return it to any Currys store (not including laptop PCs, business and front projectors, digital camcorders or cameras) where we will arrange to repair or replace it if it cannot be repaired. If we need parts for your product, we may need to send it to our technical centre. For products that qualify for Instant Replacement Instant Replacement applies to the following portable products that cost between £20 and £100: Irons, kettles, toasters, cooking products (not microwaves), heaters, fans, personal care products, joysticks, mice, external modems, organisers, hand-held games, in-car entertainment, cameras, musical keyboards, PC speakers, PC keyboards, printers, scanners, web cams, calculators, portable audio, telephones (not including mobile phones), headphones and liquid crystal display TVs. If a fault develops, that is not caused through accidental damage or misuse, we will replace your product with an identical or similar specification product. Return the qualifying product to any Currys store. Once we have confirmed the fault, we will replace it immediately. We will replace your product as many times as necessary during the life of your Service Agreement. For all other products including Sky satellite, dishwashers, cookers, fridges, fridge-freezers, freezers, American style food centres, vacuum cleaners, washing machines or dryers. We will replace your product if we cant repair it If we cant repair your product, or if it takes longer than 6 weeks to repair you may request a replacement product. The replacement may be a fully-refurbished product, or in the form of vouchers to purchase a new product of at least the equivalent specification. If we replace your product (except if it qualifies for Instant Replacement) your Service Agreement ends and we will give you vouchers for the remaining value. Your service agreement will protect your product if it gets damaged accidentally,other than those products costing between £20 and £100 that qualify for instant replacement. If your product is stolen within a year of purchase we will replace it depending on the following conditions: You must report the theft to the police within 24 hours of discovery and get a police crime reference number. Phone us for a claim form on 0870 600 1550. You must send us your completed claim within 28 days of the theft. We may replace your product with an identical or similar product. This may be a fully-refurbished product or in the form of vouchers. If we replace your product, your Service Agreement ends and Currys Coverplan will give you vouchers for the remaining value. You can use these vouchers when you next buy Coverplan. Your product will not be covered by theft insurance if: You have not done all you reasonably can to prevent your product from being stolen; You have given your product to someone else to look after; Your product is stolen while it is out of your sight or control unless; - it is stolen from a motor vehicle where you or someone with your authority was with the vehicle; or - you had hidden it from view in your vehicle (for example, in a locked glove compartment or boot), locked your vehicle with all windows, sunroofs and roofs closed and used all available security systems; or - you had locked your product in your home, office or room with all windows closed and used all available security systems. When won't I be covered by the theft insurance? Your product will not be protected by theft insurance: If you have not done all that you reasonably can to prevent your product from being stolen. If you have given your product to someone else to look after. If your product is stolen whilst out of your sight or control. It is stolen from a motor vehicle where you or someone with your authority is not with the vehicle or if you have not hidden it from view in your vehicle, for example in a glove compartment or boot. If you have not locked your product in your home, office, room or vehicle with all windows closed and used all available security systems. What to do if your frozen food is spoilt If your freezer or fridge freezer breaks down, you are covered for spoilt frozen food contained in it, up to £250. The most we will pay during the life of the Service Agreement is £1,000. Please phone us for a claim form on 0870 600 1550. What to do if your product breaks down outside the UK Get a quote for repairing your product. If the repair costs the equivalent of £150 or less, or £400 or less for a laptop PC, pay for the repair and claim the cost back from Currys Coverplan Customer Services. You will need a receipt showing the cost of the repair to do this. If the repair costs the equivalent or more than £150, or more than £400 for a laptop PC, please send details of the repair and a copy of the quote to Currys Coverplan Customer Services. Alternatively contact us on (+44) 870 600 1550. How quickly will my product be fixed? For large screen TVs, desktop PCs, printers (not including Hewlett Packard), fax machines, word processors, VCRs, and most hi-fis, engineers from Mastercare, our service and distribution organisation, will come to your home or office to carry out the repair the next working day. Next working day service is available Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays, between 9am and 5pm. You must call the appropriate helpline first, before 10.00am, on the previous day, and live within 10 miles of a Currys store in order to receive next working day service. If you live more than 10 miles from a Currys store, then a service call will be booked for the next service call in your area. We aim to repair your product during our first visit, but may need to order parts and return to finish the repair. If we need specialist equipment to repair your product, we may arrange to take your product to our technical centre. If we can't repair your TV on our first visit, and it has a screeen size of over 17 inches, then you can ask for a loan set until the repair is completed. The loan set will be a 20 inch TV. For service provided directly by manufacturers (e.g. Sky satellite, most refrigeration, laundry, cooking, dishwashing, cleaning products and showers) service response times may vary. What if my product can't be fixed? Though we do our best to fix your product, sometimes products are simply beyond economic repair or we cannot get the necessary parts. If we cannot repair your product, or it takes longer than six weeks to repair, we will replace it with an identical or similar product. The replacement may occasionally be a fully-refurbished product, or may be in the form of vouchers to purchase a new product of at least the equivalent specification. If we replace your product, your service agreement ends (except if it qualifies for instant replacement) and we will give you vouchers for the remaining value. You can use these vouchers when you next buy Currys Coverplan. If your product qualifies for instant replacement we will replace the product as often as required. What if my product is portable? ...and costs more than £100? If your product is portable and cost more than £100, return it to a Currys store, where we will arrange to repair it, or replace the product if it cannot be repaired. If we need parts for your product, we may send it to our technical centre. If the problem is with a laptop computer or camcorder, then call our dedicated helpline first. ...and cost less than £100? We offer a special instant replacement service for many products that cost less than £100. If a fault develops that is not caused by accidental damage, we will replace your product with an identical or similar product. Simply return the faulty product to a Currys store. Once we have confirmed the fault, we will replace it immediately. We will replace the product as many times as is necessary during the life of your service agreement. The instant replacement service only applies to the following products that cost less than £100. Calculators, cameras, cooking products (not microwaves), games consoles (not including Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, Sony Playstation, Sony Playstation 2), haircare products, headphones, heaters and fans, in-car entertainment, joysticks, mice and external modems, personal care products, LCD screen TVs, web cams, organisers, hand-held PCs, portable audio, hi-fi prodcts and telephones (not mobile phones). Please note that those products qualifying for instant replacement are not protected for accidental damage. What if I take my product abroad? Your product is protected even if you take it abroad. Simply contact the Coverplan Customer Services team in the UK, and they will help you get it repaired. What if I use my product for business? All the benefits of your service agreement apply to products that you use for business, apart from cooking and laundry products, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, projection TVs and LCD projectors. What if I upgrade my PC? Your PC will be protected by your Service Agreement if you upgrade it. The upgrade hardware itself will be protected if it is supplied and fitted by Currys. Other services to help with your PC For PC repair service, call the number shown over the page. To help you get your PC working, call our PC Helpline on 0906 752 5600. All calls cost 75p a minute and will not last more than 20 minutes. You will not be held in a queue on this line. We can provide basic advice on how to set up your factory-installed software, how to set up most PCs, laptop PCs, printers and computer peripherals, the basic use of Windows 2000 or Windows XP, and setting up your computer upgrades. For the life of your Service Agreement we will carry out as many repairs as your product needs, free of charge. Where appropriate, we may use fully- guaranteed refurbished parts. Occasionally you may have to pay for the repair and claim the cost of the repair from us. What's not included? Your Currys Coverplan service agreement does not include the following: Plugs, fuses, wires, cables, batteries, discs, data, styli, cartridges, tapes, software, bulbs, fusers, air and water filters, vacuum cleaner bags, belts, washers and other consumable items (items that are regularly replaced).. Lamps used in projection TVs and projectors. Cosmetic damage where it does not affect the operation or safety of the product. Repair costs that we have not approved. Protection if your product is lost. Any loss suffered because you cannot use the product, or any loss other than repair or replacement. Damage or breakdown that is due to lightning, flood, wind or other severe weather conditions. Damage or breakdown to a PC if it is caused by a computer virus. The cost of repairing or replacing a product that fails because anyone neglects, abuses or misuses the product. Software support. Any service or benefit where the Service Agreement has been suspended. Inoperability of a product caused by withdrawal of services by a third party. Protection for plasma TVs, rear projection TVs, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, cooking and laundry products if used for business. Screen burn on a plasma or rear projection TV. Accidental damage or misuse on products that qualify for Instant Replacement. What if I want to cancel my service agreement? If you are not completely satisfied with your Service Agreement, you can cancel it within 14 days of buying it. Simply contact Coverplan Customer Services, and if you haven't used the service, we will arrange for a refund. What happens if Currys goes out of business? Service Agreement Currys complies fully with the British Retail Consortium Code of Practice governing extended warranties on electrical goods. This means, amongst other things, that there is a ring fenced fund, currently of over £300 million, set aside to meet claims made under your service agreement. The fund is held under trust and is managed by a separate company outside the Dixons Group and cannot be used for any other purpose. Therefore when you purchase a service agreement from Currys you can be confident that there will always be funds available to meet the cost of repairs or product replacement to which you are entitled. Currys is part of the Dixons Group, a FTSE 100 company and market leader in its field. Insurance Plan Currys complies fully with the British Retail Consortium Code of Practice governing extended warranties on electrical goods. Insurance Plan is an insurance backed extended warranty underwritten by a leading insurance company, Allianz Insurance plc. In the extremely unlikely event that the Dixons Group ceased trading, Cornhill Insurance would continue to provide cover for repairs and product replacement. Do I get any discount on a new product with Currys Coverplan? At the end of a 5-year Service Agreement, you will be entitled to 10% discount off the next product you buy with a 5-year Service Agreement. If you have not used the service during the 5 years of your agreement, we will double your discount to 20%. Is there any other important information I should know? Cancellation period You can cancel this Service Agreement within 14 days of buying it by returning this document to any Currys store and if you have not used the service we will refund your payment. Where appropriate we may use fully-guaranteed refurbished parts. Occasionally you may have to pay for the repair and claim the cost back from us. Data Protection We ask for your name and address so that we can give you an efficient after sales service. We may pass your name to Allianz Cornhill Insurance plc, companies within the Dixons group of companies or other organisations that we have carefully chosen. What if my mobile phone breaks down? If your mobile phone breaks down, we will carry out as many repairs as your product needs, free of charge. Where appropriate, we may use fully refurbished parts. Occasionally you may have to pay for the repair and claim the cost of the repair from us. What is the Coverplan Insurance Plan quality guarantee? If your mobile phone breaks down more than twice because of a mechanical fault, you will be entitled to a replacement mobile phone. This replacement may be a fully-refurbished mobile phone. You must ask for a replacement mobile phone, and your mobile phone must be available for inspection. If your model of mobile phone is no longer available, we will replace it with a model of at least the equivalent specification. What if I accidentally damage my product? Your Insurance Plan will protect your product against accidental damage, apart from those products that qualify for instant replacement. For mobile phones we will even protect your phone against damage from liquid. If you have a 'Pay Monthly' phone, you must pay the first £25 of each claim you make. If you have a 'Pay As You Go' phone, you must pay the first £10 of each claim you make. If your mobile phone is accidentally damaged, it must be available for inspection. What if my mobile phone can't be repaired? In most instances we will repair your mobile phone and return it to you within five working days. However, if we can't repair your phone, or it takes longer than six weeks, we will replace it with an identical or similar phone. If we replace your phone, your Insurance Plan will end and we will give you vouchers for the remaining value. You can use these vouchers when you next buy Coverplan. The replacement phone may be a fully-refurbished phone. What if my mobile phone is stolen? If your product is stolen within the first year of buying it (or any time during the life of the insurance plan for mobile phones), we will replace it depending on the following conditions. You must report the theft to the police within 24 hours of discovering it has been stolen and get a crime reference number. You must send us your completed claim within 28 days. We may choose to replace your product with an identical or similar product. Occasionally this may be a fully-refurbished product. If we replace your product, your Insurance Plan will end and we will give you vouchers for the remaining value. You can use these vouchers when you next buy Coverplan from Currys. For mobile phones we will also replace any accessories you bought from Currys for your original phone, which you cannot use with your new phone. You will need to provide all the receipts showing the cost of these accessories. If you have a 'Pay Monthly' phone, you must pay the first £25 of each claim you make. If you have a 'Pay As You Go' phone, you must pay the first £10 of each claim you make. When won't I be covered by the theft insurance? If you have not done all you reasonably can to prevent your product from being stolen. If you have given your product to someone else to look after. If your 'Pay Monthly' phone is stolen, and unauthorised calls are made on it which can be identified on your itemised bill, you will be covered for the cost of calls up to £200. The most we will pay during the life of your insurance plan is £500. What happens if I am abroad and my product breaks down If your product breaks down anywhere in the world and costs less than £150 to repair, pay for the repair and claim the cost of the repair back from us. If it costs more than £150 simply contact Coverplan Customer Services in the UK, and they will help you to get it repaired or replaced. What's not included? You must return your mobile phone to our dedicated repair centre in the envelope we provide. We aim to return your repaired and tested phone to you within five working days of us receiving your phone. If I upgrade my mobile phone will it still be covered? If you buy a new mobile phone from Currys, your existing Coverplan can be transferred to your new phone. To make sure cover is transferred write to Coverplan Customer Services with details of your new phone. If you are upgrading from a 'Pay As You Go' phone to a 'Pay Monthly' contract phone, your Insurance Plan will end and we will give you vouchers for the remaining value. You can use these vouchers to buy Coverplan on your new phone. What if I want to cancel my Insurance Plan? Cancellation period You can cancel this Insurance Plan within 14 days of buying it by returning this document to any Currys store. If you have not used the service, we will refund your payment.
